We regret to confirm, nearly 80 years after the founding in 1947 by Harry Green of the BELGIAN STUDY CIRCLE which was renamed the BELGIAN PHILATELIC STUDY CIRCLE, that we have finally had to draw our activities to a close. The reason has become common across specialist and other societies in the UK, as well as in other countries; not a shortage of members and certainly not an enthusiasm for Belgian philately and postal history but simply a lack of volunteers to take on roles running the Circle. Admittedly, some tasks have become easier with the help of modern technology, but rapid advances in technology have also made some jobs technically reliant on skills many do not have.
We are grateful to all our members over the years for their support, knowledge and friendship, and their names are largely still inscribed within the pages of our longstanding journal BELGAPOST.
For the future, we plan to keep our website live on the internet, and will be pleased to offer access to the site content to collectors and researchers who wish it. This can be done by simply registering on the website at for which there is no charge. Thus the information available on our website now becomes open source and available to consult.
However, all is not lost. We are currently working on a new website for collectors of the three Benelux countries. This will be entirely online and will be designed to support collectors who need or would like to share information about our hobby, hopefully to provide a resource for our remaining past members and colleagues in sister societies.
Please watch this space.
